On Sunday, January 18, 2004, 10:00 am, we had an exhilarating 8 mile hike in the hills above Pacific Palisades. Words like fantastic, wonderful, awesome & others that I made up for this intro were used to describe this terrific hike. All I can say is if you're not joining us you're really missing a great physical & social occasion. Thanks to Rob Reisenwitz for beautifully documenting our experience with these pics.
Guy Monahan provided these details:
Sunday, January 18, 2004, 10:00 am, Manana Ridge Trail
Description: Manana Trail to Waimano Pool hike for getting to the trailhead, but this time, instead of going down to the pool, we'll take the ridge trail to the helipad which is rated Novice and then Intermediate. (The trail continues on to the summit, but that approx 2 mile section is rated Expert.) The estimated roundtrip distance is 8 miles.
Directions: From Honolulu take the H-1 freeway heading west. Near Middle St. keep left on Rte 78 west to Aiea. By Aloha Stadium bear right to rejoin H-1 to Pearl City. Depart the freeway at exit 10 (Pearl City--Waimalu). Turn right on Moanalua Rd. at the end of the off ramp. Continue Ewa bound on Moanalua Rd to Waimano Home Rd, then turn right. Ascend gradually through two traffic lights. At the third traffic light and just before the road narrows to two lanes, turn left on Komo Mai Dr. Descend into Waimano Valley, climb out via the next ridge then drive through the Pacific Palisades subdivision. At the end of the road, park on the street just before the turnaround circle.
Aloha, Robert
